Zainul Abedin
05/04/2009 19:56Many genious have enriched our culture in many ways. Zainul Abedin mostly known as Shilpacharya was a famous artist of 1940s. He was born in Mymensing, Bangladesh. He studied in Calcutta Government Art School and joined there as a teacher after his graduation.
As a realistic artist, Zainul drew a series of sketches on the femine of 1943 where which reflected the news that many people are died because of the man made femine.
His sketches always focused the deprived people and their sufferings. Many of his sketces representing river reflects his childhood life besides the Brahmaputra river.
The beauty of his work was that he could deftly capture the sad introspection and certain tragic quality by his brisk, bold and strong lines and his soft, glistening water colors. Zainul Abedin has painted extensively in wide variety of styles, ranging from purely objective and almost photographic to various abstract and semi-abstract studies.
